Chadar Trek
Chadar trek is also known as Frozen River trek and Zanskar Gorge trek is a winter trek over the frozeN river Zanskar in the Kargil district of Ladakh. This adventurous trek trail is over the frozen river. This trek is called the ‘chadar trek” because the Zanskar river which is the main attraction of this trek gets covered by sheets of ice during winters. This will be one of the most fascinating experiences you will ever have. This trek is difficult and is suitable if you are an experienced trekker.
This trek can be completed in 9-10days. Take a flight to Leh and take a medical test and complete all insurance formalities. Then you have to drive to Shingra Koma. It is the initiation point of the trek. From here, you have to trek to Nerak village via Tibb Cave and Tsomo Paldar. You have to return to Shingra Koma on the same route.
Snow Leopard Trek
Snow Leopard Trek is a trek to the Hemis National Park which is situated at more than 4000m above sea level in Ladakh. This high-altitude national park is an abode to many birds and animals, including Snow Leopards, Eurasian Brown bears, Himalayan birds, etc. This trekking trail is via Buddhist monasteries and the Rumbak Valley, where you can homestay and interact with the folks and get to know the unique culture of this village. The difficulty level of this trek is moderate to difficult and will be suitable if you have any prior trekking experience.
This trek can be completed in 10-12days. The trek starts from Phey. You have to drive from Leh to reach Phey. From Phet, you have to trek to the Hemis National Park. Then you have to trek to the Rumbak Valley where you will be home staying. From there you have to trek to Zingchen. On reaching Zingchen. You can drive back to Leh.
Kedarkantha Trek
Kedarkantha trek is the most loved winter trek because it is suitable for all, you can trek here even if you don’t have any prior experience. This adventurous trek is done amidst the lap of the Himalayas in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, having an altitude of about 3800 m. The panoramic view of the several mountain ranges from the top of the Kedarkantha peak will make you spellbound. The snow-covered trail will be a lifetime experience for you. You can also slide over the snow. This is an easy winter trek.
The trek starts from Sankri. You have to start trekking from Sankri to Kedarkantha base via Juda-ka-Talab. From the Kedarkantha base, you have to trek to the Kedarkantha peak and then descend to Hargaon camp. From the camp, you have to trek to Sankri. On reaching Sankri, you can board a vehicle to Dehradun.
Dodital Winter Trek
Dodital is a freshwater lake situated at a height of 3,024 m in the Uttarkashi district of the state of Uttarakhand. The Assi Ganga river flows from Dodital and unites with the Bhagirathi river at the junction in Gangori, near Uttarkashi. Dodital is also known as Ganesh-ka -Tal and is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Ganesh. The tranquil environment near the lake makes it a suitable place for camping overnight. The trek route is covered by snow during winters. The difficulty level of this trek is easy to moderate and is also suitable for first-timers.
This trek can be completed in 6-7days. You have to drive from Uttarkashi to Sangamchatti. This is the initiation point of the trek. From here, you have to trek to Dodital via Manjhi. From Dodital, you have to trek to Darwa top and again return to Dodital. Then you have to trek to Agoda. On reaching Agoda, you can board a vehicle to Rishikesh.
Roopkund Lake Trek
Roopkund is a glacial lake situated at high-altitude in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India. This lake has a diameter of approximately 40 m and is situated at an altitude of 5020 m. You can see skeletons on the edge of the lake. Despite these skeletons, Roopkund Lake is a tourist destination in Uttarakhand. This lake is covered by ice throughout the year. The difficulty level of this trek is moderate and first-timers can also go for this trek.
This trek can be done in 7-8days. You have to drive from Kathgodam to Lohajung. This is the initiation point of the trek. You have to start trekking from here towards the Roopkund lake via Didna village, Ali Bugyal, Bedni Bugyal, Ghora Lotani, Patar Nachauni. Kalu Vinayak and Bhagwasa. From Roopkund, you have to trek to Patar Nachauni. Then you have to trek Lohargunj via Bedni and Wan. On reaching Lohagunj, you can board a vehicle to Kathgodam.
